Invitation til webinar

Gender Lens
on Financing for Development:

Tax Justice for Gender Equality

Dear All,

On Thursday, 3rd of September, at 2 pm CEST, Feminist Task Force and K.U.L.U. Women and Development invite you to participate in our second webinar:

“Gender Lens on Financing for Development: Tax Justice for Gender Equality”

REGISTER HERE

The webinar will provide a basic introduction to the Financing for Development (FfD) process and its links to tax justice from a gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE) perspective. Taxation is the most sustainable solution to sufficiently fund women’s and girls’ basic needs and reduce gender inequality. However, the lack of an international tax system that works for women, neoliberal economic and austerity policies, tax avoidance and illicit financial flows reduce the capacity of governments to raise tax revenues and finance women’s rights issues.

In the webinar, we will discuss this and the links between FfD, tax justice and the Beijing Platform for Action and CEDAW with:

  • Resina Katafono, Economic Affairs Officer, Financing for Sustainable Development Office, United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs

  • Gea Meijers, Coordinator, Women in Development Europe Plus (WIDE+)

  • Kathleen Lahey, Professor and Queen's National Scholar, Faculty of Law, Queen's University, Co-director, Feminist Legal Studies Queen's, Canada

  • Caroline Othim, Campaigns & Policy Coordinator – Africa, Global Alliance for Tax Justice, Co-coordinator Gender & Tax Working Group, Kenya

It is the second webinar in our joint “Finance Gender Equality and Women’s Rights – Close the Gap” project that aims to inform about and engage new participation among civil society in the UN Financing for Development (FfD) agenda. Our first webinar “Gender Lens on Financing for Development: Equality and Women’s Rights Impacts” provided an overall introduction to the FfD process from a GEWE perspective. We will send the recording shortly.

We look forward to an engaging panel discussion and Q&A session in the final plenary.

The webinar is part of the Citizens for Financial Justice project consortium that is financed by EU DEAR funds.

Kind regards,

For the FGEWR Team,

Mette Høst Mikkelsen
