President for the Platform for Women Leaders of Mali

Currently the President of Plateforme des Femmes Leaders du Mali pour la Paix et la Réconciliation - Platform for Women Leaders of Mali - a national body of female political leaders, ministers, parliamentarians, prominent activists and human rights defenders, which has lead several initiatives in relation to the Algiers peace agreement, monitoring and working to ensure women’s increased representation in decision-making bodies and creating awareness and public debate in Mali.

For many years Mama Koite Doumbia has been a well known figure in regional and international women’s rights fora from the pan-african women’s network FEMNET to regional peace initiatives as well as to appointments to advising organs to the AU. On the international scene, she has been a vocal voice for African and Malian women’s rights on countless international conferences and summits on topics as climate change, MDG’s and Financing for Development as well as the annual UN CSW. She has also on several occasions been a member of the national Malian delegation to UN negotiations.
In 2015 Mama Koite Doumbia was elected as Africa representative to the Board of directors, Trust Fund for Victims under the International Criminal Court, ICC.

She has earned several honorary titles and prizes such as:
• Mérite National du Mali avec Effigie Abeille, 2004
• Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mali, 2007
• Chevalier du mérite Africain (Addis Abeba)2007
• Prix International Minerva (Italie) 2007
• Gender Awards 2011 (Dakar)

In Mali she has also since 2003 acted as the President of MUSONET Mali (formerly FEMNET Mali), a network of women’s organizations and individual members working to strengthen women’s and girl’s participation in decisionmaking and leadership through rights training and advocacy. MUSONET is also the key agent and partner in the current campaign Enable  Girl's and Women's Rights in Mali together with K.U.L.U.-Women and Development in Denmark since 2008. Read more.

(*) About the Mali Platform for Women Leaders: Among the many activities are TV and radio advertisements, public debates, peace caravans, training for 145 women in conflict mediation techniques, awareness-raising on the peace agreement for 900 women, lobbying with political and traditional decision-makers, and visiting women survivors of violence in camps for refugees and internally displaced persons.
Following the peace agreement in July 2015 The Platform hosted a women’s consultation that resulted in a statement to the President of Mali as well as a list of priorities for national institutions in order to strengthen the gender dimension in the ongoing peace proces.
